Margins' goal is to uplift and strengthen Black Women and their ability to parent. Margins aims to intervene in poverty-stricken familial units and restore hope by providing practical support. This includes but is not limited to bill assistance, avenues for self care, childcare, activities for children and parents, and monetary help. Margins listens to and directly addresses issues stemming from systemic poverty by mobilizing resources from multiple channels and putting them to work for the people who need them.
Today we offer fresh produce and healthy food options at any of our two, 24-hour free food pantries. Margins recurring Free Markets connect families to essential resources. These capital-free shopping experiences are paired with annual Christmas, March Mama, Backpack and Coat drives as well as rapid responses to Margins' inbox submissions for direct, monetary services.
Margins designed a capital-free pop-up boutique as a protected and caring space for community. We connect parents to essential items, like clothes, shoes, period products, diapers, wipes, affirming tools and a gentle reminder that people living in poverty deserve nice things too! The consistent practice of "showing up" with resources powerfully pivots ideologies of individualism and scarcity to that of communal abundance.
It's the simple things like enjoying lunch or dinner at a food venue that reminds adults, struggling with the challenges of raising a family under sub-optimal conditions, that they deserve a break now and then. Our lunch program funds lunches for dozens of single mothers, and we can fund even more with your help. Match with our donors that believe in the transformational power of mutual aid and direct services.
Donating to Margins is meeting families grappling with systemic violence and oppression, at each intersection; with basic needs, care, food and other resources.
